How BetXS uses your personal data in its shops
The privacy notice for our betting shops: the cameras, the age checks, self-exclusion and your rights.
Policy document uploaded 23 October 2026
CCTV. Our shops are unstaffed and are monitored by CCTV, live and recorded, for the security of the premises, the cash and the equipment and for the safety of everyone in them, and so that our staff can act on alerts. We rely on our legitimate interests and on our legal duties as a licensed bookmaker. Recordings are kept for 30 days unless needed for an incident or requested by the Garda Síochána.
Age checks. We must not allow anyone under 18 to bet. A camera at the terminal estimates the age of the person using it. If you appear to be under 25, the screen locks and you will be asked to prove your age, either by verifying your identity on your phone using the code on the screen, or by showing an identity document to our staff. The software does not decide your age and does not identify you. It keeps no picture of you on the terminal. It records that a check was prompted, for 24 hours. Until they are retired, cameras at the entrance of each shop also estimate age and alert our staff. We rely on our legal duty under the Gambling Regulation Act 2024.
Self-exclusion. If you have asked us to exclude you from our shops and have agreed to it, the same camera compares faces with a gallery of face templates of self-excluded customers, so that we can keep our promise to you. Only numerical templates are stored, not pictures, for the period of your exclusion, and only with your explicit consent, which you can withdraw at any time by contacting our DPO. If the software thinks it recognises you, our staff check before doing anything; a small image of the face is kept for 24 hours for that check and then deleted. Until they are retired, cameras at the entrance of each shop, supported by Nsoft, do the same comparison with the register you agreed to join, and may alert you by phone, text or email if you asked for that.
Bets and cash. Your bets, the cash you insert and the tickets you print are recorded against the terminal session, not your name, unless you identify yourself. Debit card payments at the cash centre are processed by the card provider; we keep the transaction record. We keep these records for five years as the law requires.
Identity checks. If you stake or win €2,000 or more, or if the law otherwise requires it, we must identify you before the transaction proceeds. We will ask for a photo identity document and a proof of address, and may ask where your funds come from. We keep these records for five years after our relationship ends, and may have to share them with FIU Ireland, the Revenue Commissioners, the Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland, the Anti-Money Laundering Compliance Unit or the Garda Síochána.
Who else sees your data. Dove Shield Tech Limited, Dublin, runs our betting platform, our terminals and the terminal camera software for us; its servers are in Germany and Ireland. Nsoft supplies and supports the entrance cameras. Alerts to our staff are sent through Slack, and telephone or text alerts through Twilio, both of which store data in the United States under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. We do not sell your data and do not use data from our shops for marketing.
Your rights. You can ask for a copy of your data, have it corrected or erased, restrict or object to its use, and withdraw consent, by contacting our DPO. We answer within a month. You can complain to the Data Protection Commission, 6 Pembroke Row, Dublin 2, D02 X963.
